Our op-ed in Foreign Policy in Focus

The path away from fossil fuels is already here.

Our new op-ed in Foreign Policy in Focus argues that, while COP30 stopped short of naming fossil fuels, a practical exit route already exists: triple renewable energy, double efficiency, and slash methane gas, backed by enforceable rules like the EU’s methane regulation. Together, these moves undercut demand for fossil extraction projects and deliver measurable near-term cooling.

Authors Daphne Wysham and Trina Chiemi also flag April 2026, when Colombia and the Netherlands will host the first global summit on the just transition away from fossil fuels in Santa Marta. That meeting can turn pledges into binding measures, with methane gas standards front and centre.
